When you see a homeless person on the street, what is your immediate reaction? Do you feel sympathy for them and want to help, or do you avoid making eye contact and try to ignore them?
Chances are, it’s the latter. Unfortunately, many people view the homeless as lazy or dirty and don’t think they deserve our help.
But the truth is, anyone could find themselves in that situation if they’re unlucky enough. So instead of judging them, let’s pray for them.
God knows their situation and He will help them if they’re willing to let Him. Let’s also pray for the people who are homeless by choice, that they will find the strength to change their ways. No one deserves to be homeless, especially during the cold winter months. Let’s all do our part to help those who are less fortunate.
What does the Bible say about feeding the poor and homeless?
The Bible encourages Christians to help the poor and homeless. In fact, Jesus said,
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:40)
There are many ways to help the poor and homeless. You can volunteer at a homeless shelter or food bank, or donate money or food to a charity that helps the poor and homeless.
God wants us to help the poor and homeless because they are some of the most vulnerable people in our society. They need our help, and we can show them the love of Christ by helping them meet their basic needs.
There are many Bible verses about helping the poor and homeless. Here are a few of them:
“Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act.” (Proverbs 3:27)
“Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.” (Deuteronomy 15:10)
“If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.” (Proverbs 21:13)
“He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” (Proverbs 14:31)
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” (James 1:27)
Feeding the poor and homeless is a good way to show God’s love. It is important to help those who are less fortunate than us because they need our help. When we help others, we are also helping God.
