In this article, we’re going to look at one reason why you should pray for mercy and forgiveness and some examples of Prayer for mercy and forgiveness
The Story of The Prodigal Son
Jesus told this parable: “A man had two sons. The younger son told his father, ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.’ So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons.
The younger son took his inheritance and squandered it in a few days. He then went to a far country and there wasted everything he had.
He was starving and penniless when he came back home. His father saw him coming from a long way off and ran to meet him. He hugged his son and kissed him. The son said, ‘Father, I have sinned against God and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate” (Luke 15:11-24).
In this parable, the younger son represents people who have sinned and squandered their inheritance. And the father represents God, who is merciful and forgiving.
The son asks for mercy and forgiveness, and the father gives it to him.
This story teaches us that God is always willing to forgive us, no matter what we’ve done.
