How to overcome fear anxiety worrying and stress
1: Overcome fear by casting it on God
When we think about our fears, the first thing that comes to mind is usually not God. But without a doubt, His Word tells us He’s able to save us from our fears:
“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You Because he trusts in You. (Isaiah 26:3, NKJV).
So let God take control of the things you’re afraid of. Remember that everything comes from Him and He loves you.
2: Overcome fear by using God’s name
Another effective way to overcome our fears is by using the power of God’s name. When we say, “God will help me,” it gives us hope and courage. We know He’ll make a way when there seems to be no way.
Psalm 118:6 tells us,
“The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (NKJV).
3: Overcome fear by trusting God’s timing
When we’re feeling anxious about something or someone, it can be easy to focus on that thing and become overwhelmed. But if we take our eyes off the circumstance and put them on God, we’ll soon find peace and rest in Him.
Psalm 37:7, tells us,
“Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” (NKJV).
So when you feel overwhelmed with your fears, trust that God will work everything out in His perfect timing.
4: Overcome fear by setting realistic expectations
If you expect too much of yourself, others, and your circumstances, you’ll always be disappointed. And when we set unrealistic expectations for ourselves and the people around us, we tend to get anxious about it.
But God tells us in Jeremiah 29:11,
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV).
So we need to believe that no matter what happens, God has something good in store.
5: Overcome fear by focusing on others’ needs besides your own
If you focus on yourself, your fears will only grow stronger. But if you take your eyes off yourself and think about others’ needs instead, it’ll be easier to let go of the things that make you afraid.
In Matthew 22:39 it says,
“And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'” (NKJV).
If we love others like ourselves, we’ll have greater peace and joy in our lives.
6: Overcome fear by trusting God is near
Another way to overcome fear is by realizing that God is always with us. In Psalm 139:7-10 it says,
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there shall Your hand lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall fall on me,’ even the night shall be light about me; indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and light are both alike to You.” (NKJV).
God is everywhere at all times. And this provides us comfort to know He’ll always be there to protect us.
So when you’re afraid of something, remember that God is near and can help you through anything.
7: Overcome fear by praising God
Our fears often come because we feel like things are out of control or that no one understands what we’re going through. But if we can turn to God no matter how bad things might be, He’ll provide the strength we need.
In Psalm 34:1 it says,
“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (NKJV).
8: Overcome fear by surrendering your life to God
Surrendering your life to God is the last step to overcoming fear. When you do this, your anxiety will slowly fade away because you know He’ll always be there to keep you safe in His hands.
In Isaiah 26:3 it says,
“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” (NKJV).
Whenever you feel afraid, remember that God will protect you and fulfill His promises.
Conclusion
So when you’re feeling anxious about something in your life, remember that God is near and He loves you.
You can overcome fear by trusting in His timing, setting realistic expectations, loving others like yourself, trusting God is always with you, praising Him no matter how bad things are, and surrendering everything to Him.
And when you practice these things, he’ll help you through your fears and guide you to a life filled with hope.
