You might not know this, but suicide is a leading cause of death in the world. In fact, it’s the second most common way to die for people aged 15-24 years old.
This blog post will cover how you can motivate someone who is suicidal and what signs to look out for from them.
How to motivate a suicidal person
The first step is to be aware that this person could be feeling depressed or struggling with some other mental illness – such as depression or anxiety disorder.
When they feel like no one cares about them anymore, they might want to end their life because they think it would make others happy too.
From there, we’ll talk about ways you can help keep them safe and prevent a tragedy from happening!
The first thing to do is to stay calm.
If you sound panicked, the other person will think they are making you feel bad… which makes them feel even worse about themselves than they already did!
Also, if you panic, it can make it harder for them to open up about their feelings and how they’re really feeling.
The second thing you should do if someone is expressing suicidal thoughts is to believe them and acknowledge their feelings… don’t judge them!
How would you feel if someone judged and criticized your beliefs and opinions? You wouldn’t like it, right? So it’s important;.
If someone tells you that they’re thinking about committing suicide, don’t be shocked by it. Don’t try to talk them out of it or tell them that they’re going over the top because then they will feel judged and criticized which makes them feel even worse!
So, if a friend or family member is considering suicide, your best bet is to listen and believe them. Then, you can talk about how they’re feeling, and what their problems are, and let them know that there is someone out there who cares for them.
You can also ask if they have a plan or if they have taken any steps yet towards doing it – even just a thought of what method to use! If they do, then you need to call for help. This is not something that you can handle on your own!
If they haven’t, don’t worry – it doesn’t mean that they won’t try again or that they aren’t serious about it. You still need to take steps towards making sure that they stay safe and alive, like talking to them and finding out how they’re really feeling and what they’re thinking.
If you think they might hurt themselves, try to keep them busy so that they can’t do it… but don’t be too pushy! It’s important to let them know that you believe in their ability to get better if they want to. No one deserves to be suicidal. No one deserves to feel like there is no hope and that they will never be happy again.
It’s also really important to understand that if someone you know is considering suicide, they’re probably feeling alone and isolated from everyone else right now.
They think that they’re a burden – especially because most people don’t talk about this problem and it’s always swept under the rug.
Even though they’re probably not thinking clearly, it’s important to let them know that there are people out there who care for them and want to help because you can’t do anything if you don’t know how they feel or what their situation is!
And, if they’re going through a tough time right now and just need someone to listen, you can do that too!
Signs of a suicidal person
If someone is thinking about suicide or has already attempted it, then there are some signs you should look out for.
Don’t worry… not everyone who shows these signs will be suicidal! But, they should definitely be taken seriously.
Here are some of the most common signs:
They’re giving away their prized possessions (or if they don’t have any prized possessions, their everyday items like clothes or electronics that mean something to them).
They might also say goodbye to people when it’s not normal for them to do that!
They’re making extra precautions to make sure that they won’t get caught, like giving their family members different reasons why they’re going out or telling friends why they won’t be able to meet up.
Some might even leave a note behind to say goodbye! They have feelings of being trapped or hopeless or feeling worthless. Or, sometimes they might tell you directly that they are thinking of ending their life… if this is the case, then call for help!
People who feel suicidal might also show other signs like not caring about how they look anymore, not sleeping or eating properly, having trouble concentrating on schoolwork or work, and using drugs and alcohol more often.
So before it’s too late, check in with your friends and classmates to see what they’re up to because not everyone can recognize the signs of suicide themselves.
It might be difficult for you to identify someone who is suicidal – but don’t worry! That’s because most people are really good at hiding their emotions or feeling ashamed about it.
Suicidal feelings can’t be seen like a cut or a bruise, and most people who feel suicidal don’t talk about it.
Here are some examples to motivate a suicidal person
“I care about you and I want you to know that there are people out there who care for you. I want you to live, I wish not for the end but a new beginning.
There is the meaning behind everything that happens in life and it is up to us to find that meaning. I have faith that you’ll find the right path again. And I will be with you. I won’t abandon you, I want you to stay here. That is my desire.”
“I’m sorry life has been harsh to you but don’t let this pain take over your life. I know it hurts, the world is a cruel place and there are people out there whose hearts are as cold as ice but don’t let that make you think the world doesn’t care. It does. You matter to me because you’re a wonderful person who deserves to be happy. I want you to live for me, I need you here in my life. You are important and valued, even though you don’t know it yet, one day you will realize how much your life is worth.”
“We only have one life to live but that doesn’t mean we should just give up on everything when things get rough. There are people out there who love you and would do anything to help you. You might not believe it yet, but I know it is true. There are great things in store for you.”
